CHAPTER SEVEN
WITH BAGS OF food and a few bottles of wine from one of the family wineries at his feet, Enzo sent his boat through the canal toward his old home. He hadnât looked forward to an evening with a woman this much in a long time. Not since the recent night theyâd spent touring and eating and kissing. Not since the incredible night heâd spent with Aubrey two months ago, and he didnât have to think too hard about what all that meant.
Maybe this was a bad idea. Maybe it wasnât. Maybe it didnât matter either way, because heâd given up on keeping their relationship strictly business, not just because heâd failed miserably at it. Because heâd come to believe that, unbelievably coincidental as it had seemed that Aubrey had shown up in his life, thereâd been a reason for it. And not the reason heâd originally wondered.
It was meant to be that he and Aubrey would have four amazing months to spend time together. For her to have a native Venetian show her the most amazing city in the world. For him to have something in his life to enjoy while he dealt with the very stressful and unenjoyable battle to get his motherâs house back from the brink of destruction, and into the family fold again.
The more he was around Aubrey, the more he wanted her. Warm and smart and a little sassy, and how was he to resist that lethal combination?
Clearly, the answer was that he couldnât. And heâd given up trying.
His heart gave a strange little kick in his chest when he saw Aubrey waiting for him next to the dock. She smiled and waved, and he nearly ran the boat into one of the wooden posts, he was so intent on looking at her beautiful face and body, her silky hair lifting a little in the breeze.
He managed to safely secure the boat right next to her. A gust of wind blew her dress up a little, and was it his fault that he was below her and had to look?
âHey!â Both her hands pressed down her skirt and she frowned at him. âNo peeking up my dress.â
âNeed I point out that Iâve already had the pleasure of seeing way more of you than that?â
She gasped, but it almost sounded like a shocked laugh, so he was pretty sure her offense was mock. Though why heâd let such a thing fall out of his mouth, he wasnât sure. Or maybe he was, because he couldnât help that the vision of her beautiful, naked body often filled his mind.
âThat kind of remark definitely doesnât qualify for us having that professional, friendly relationship weâre trying to have.â
âThat was friendly, wasnât it?â
âMaybe in Italy. At home itâs called sexual harassment.â
âIs it? To me, sexual harassment is more likeââ
âStop now, before I call the UWWHA on you. And refuse to come on this excursion after all.â
Heâd already told himself to shut up already and laughed at how outraged she somehow managed to look, even when her beautiful eyes were twinkling.
